Epoxy flooring

Epoxy is the most versatile resin floor: a hard, seamless, chemical-resistant surface, from a 300-micron roller coat to a 4 mm self-levelling topping. Hychem makes solventless, water-based and novolac epoxies — Supafloor, SF20, SL20, WE500 and WE90 among them — for warehouses, workshops, laboratories and food plants.

What the floor has to handle

Traffic
foot, trolley and forklift, from light to heavy duty
Chemicals
oils, fuels, cleaners, dilute acids and alkalis; novolac grades for stronger acids
Finish
gloss, satin or textured anti-slip, R10–R13 with aggregate
Thickness
200–300 microns a coat, up to 4 mm as a self-levelling topping
Cure
foot traffic in about 24 hours, full cure in 7 days (most grades)

FAQs about epoxy flooring

Is epoxy or polyurethane cement better?

Epoxy for dry to damp areas where chemicals, abrasion and a decorative finish matter; polyurethane cement where the floor sees hot washdown, freezing temperatures, fats and acids every day — most food processing.

How thick is an epoxy floor?

A roller-applied coating is 200–300 microns a coat (SF20 builds 500 microns in two coats); a self-levelling topping such as SL20 is 2–4 mm.

How long before I can use it?

Most Hychem epoxies take foot traffic after about 24 hours and reach full cure in 7 days at 25 °C. TL2 Flash cures in 4 hours where downtime is short.

Can epoxy be used outdoors?

Epoxy chalks and yellows in sunlight. Outside, top it with a UV-stable polyaspartic such as PA300 or a polyurethane such as PU100.
