Pharmaceutical and cleanroom flooring
Pharmaceutical plants and cleanrooms need a seamless, impervious floor that does not shed and stands up to repeated cleaning and disinfection. Specify a self-levelling epoxy such as Hychem SL20 (2–4 mm, 95 MPa) or water-based WE500 where low odour matters, and Hychem 177ESD where static must be controlled.

Standards that apply
| Standard | Title | What it means for the floor |
|---|---|---|
| PIC/S PE009-17 | Guide to Good Manufacturing Practice for medicinal products (incl. Annex 1) | Adopted by the TGA from 1 September 2025. Cleanroom surfaces must be smooth, impervious and unbroken, and stand up to repeated cleaning and disinfection. |
| ISO 14644-1:2015 | Cleanrooms — Classification of air cleanliness by particle concentration | Classifies the room's air, not the floor. A seamless, non-dusting floor helps the room hold its class. |
| IEC 61340-5-1 | Protection of electronic devices from electrostatic phenomena — General requirements | The ESD control programme for an electronics area; the floor is one element of it, with footwear and grounding. |

FAQs about pharmaceutical and cleanroom flooring
Is there a GMP-certified floor?
GMP applies to the facility and how it is run, not to a floor product. Choose a floor that meets the surface requirements — smooth, impervious, cleanable — and keep its data sheet and chemical-resistance table in the validation file.
Can a floor be ISO 14644 compliant?
ISO 14644-1 classifies the room’s air. A seamless, non-dusting floor helps the room hold its class; the floor itself is not certified to it.
Which epoxy for a laboratory?
SL20 for a hard, smooth, chemical-resistant floor; WE500 where low odour and low VOC matter in an occupied building.
