Hychem Deckproof PU-2-SL — External Trafficable Waterproofing Membrane

Product description

Deckproof PU-2-SL is an external trafficable waterproofing membrane, designed to be used in combination with other Hychem coatings to form a range of decorative finishes for pedestrian areas or hard-wearing surfaces for vehicle traffic. Deckproof PU-2-SL is certified to AS4654.1 as a Class III membrane for external above ground waterproofing over concrete and CFC substrates.

Typical applications

  • Carparks
  • Ramps
  • Balconies
  • Stadiums
  • Raised structures
  • Wash bays

Features and benefits

  • High build non-UV membrane (Hychem recommended top coat required)
  • Self-smoothing to provide a very smooth surface with uniform thickness
  • Class III above ground membrane
  • Very high Shore A hardness ~ 80
  • Excellent mechanical properties
  • Full range of slip-resistance and texture depth options to suit individual project requirements
  • Variety of finishes available

Approvals and certifications

  • Complies with AS4654.1:2012 for non-exposed external above ground waterproofing
  • CRF Compliant

Application guidelines

Summary from the data sheet — follow the PDF on site.

Surface preparation
  • The substrate must be clean, thoroughly dry and free of contamination including dirt and oil.
  • The substrate must be free from all laitance, loose matter, oils, curing compounds, form release agents or any other contaminants that may inhibit adhesion.
  • Concrete should be mechanically profiled to achieve minimum CSP2.
  • CFC and other non-porous surfaces should be lightly profiled to remove all gloss.
  • Priming: Hychem have a range of substrate specific primers. Please consult a Hychem technical representative for project specific advice.
Pre-conditioning product

It is important to note that even when the application environment is warm, products which have been stored in cold or cooler conditions should be pre-conditioned, ideally to 20-25°C.

Mixing

Mix both components Part A (18kg) with Part B (18kg), or smaller mixes at a ratio of 1:1 by weight (not volume). NB. Do not add solvent.

Application

Deckproof PU-2-SL is typically applied in one coat by notch trowel and spike roller on horizontal surfaces or multiple coats on vertical surfaces using brush and roller. Roller application should be in a slow motion to avoid aeration. Application rates will vary depending on system requirements. Minimum application rate is 1.2kg/sqm for pedestrian areas over concrete, 1.5kg/sqm for pedestrian areas over CFC and minimum 2kg/sqm heavy vehicles over concrete. Hychem may modify these application rates for project specific requirements.

Environmental conditions

Temperature and the surrounding atmospheric conditions will play a part in the curing process of all resin products. Under conditions of low temperatures and high humidity the final cured surface finish can be adversely affected, potentially resulting in poor gloss retention, discoloration over time, poor overcoat ability and inter-coat adhesion. Quite often these conditions will result in the formation of a white film over the surface, often evident after contact with water. If this occurs, the existing coating will need to be abraded to completely remove the affected surface to ensure the adhesion of subsequent applications. In some cases, partial or complete re-priming may be necessary. Attention also needs to be paid to the substrate temperature, which should be at least 3-5 °C above the dew point during the curing phase. Industry standards recommend the accurate recording of environmental conditions such as substrate and air temperatures, humidity levels and dew point readings during both the application and curing processes. Full material warranties cannot be provided unless all the relevant data has been recorded accurately. If in doubt consult the HYCHEM technical department for advice.

Safety precautions

Wear appropriate personal protection equipment. Gloves, eye protection, mask and overalls should be used during mixing and application.

Shelf life

Minimum 12 months from date of manufacture when stored under shelter at 25°C in the original un-opened container.

Storage conditions

The packaging must be stored properly in original, unopened and undamaged sealed packaging, in dry conditions at temperatures between 5°C and 30°C.

Topcoats

A range of decorative effects or hard wearing solid colour finishes are available. Please consult Hychem for a project specific recommendation.

Questions about Hychem Deckproof PU-2-SL

What does AS 4654.1 Class III mean?

AS 4654.1 classes external membranes by how far they stretch; Class III stretches most. Deckproof PU-2-SL is certified Class III for non-exposed external above-ground waterproofing, with 305 % elongation at 23 °C.

Does it need a topcoat?

Yes. It is a high-build, non-UV membrane, so a Hychem recommended topcoat is required — that layer takes the sunlight and the traffic.

Can vehicles drive on it?

Yes, once it is finished with a Hychem wearing course: it is designed for car parks, ramps and wash bays as well as balconies and stadiums.

Where is Hychem Deckproof PU-2-SL used?

Hychem Deckproof PU-2-SL is used for: Carparks; Ramps; Balconies; Stadiums; Raised structures; Wash bays.
