MMA and PMMA flooring

MMA (methyl methacrylate) floors cure in about an hour — walkable after 1 hour, fully loaded after 2 hours at 20 °C — and can be laid below freezing. Hychem's Polyac range covers primers, self-levelling and wear layers, top layers, a repair mortar and an elastomeric waterproofing membrane.

FAQs about MMA and PMMA flooring

MMA or PMMA?

The same chemistry: the liquid resin is methyl methacrylate (MMA), which cures to polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). UK suppliers tend to say PMMA; Australians usually say MMA.

Why choose MMA?

Speed and cold. A Polyac floor is walkable after an hour and can be laid in freezing conditions, so a kitchen or cold store loses a night, not a week.

Does it smell?

Yes, while it cures: methyl methacrylate has a strong odour. It dissipates as the floor cures; plan ventilation and access around it.
