Flake flooring
A flake floor is a seamless epoxy system with decorative vinyl chips broadcast into it and sealed: hard-wearing, easy to clean, and slip-rated R10 to R13 with anti-slip additives. Hychem Hy-Flake is laid at 500–2,000 microns over new or old concrete, with a PU topcoat for outdoor areas.
Standards that apply
| Standard | Title | What it means for the floor |
|---|---|---|
| AS 4586-2013 | Slip resistance classification of new pedestrian surface materials | Classes a new floor: P0–P5 on the wet pendulum, R9–R13 on the oil-wet ramp, A–C for wet barefoot areas. Ask for the class the area needs, not just "non-slip". |

FAQs about flake flooring
Is flake flooring slippery?
Not when specified for the area: Hy-Flake meets R10 to R13 with selected anti-slip additives.
Can a flake floor go outside?
Yes, with a UV-stable polyurethane or polyaspartic topcoat; epoxy alone yellows in sunlight.
What does a flake floor cost?
It depends on the area, the slab’s condition and the finish. Ask for a quote and an approved applicator will price your site.
